For Cherry Ember, sound had a spectrum. Poetry, memory, and a vivid inner world became music you could almost see.

Born Amber Rose Kirsch in Los Angeles, Cherry Ember grew up among the stained glass and Victorian architecture of Angelino Heights. She experienced synesthesia, perceiving sounds as colors—a connection that shaped her artistic world. Poetry became an outlet at eleven, and those early verses grew into songs.
Drawing inspiration from artists including Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, The Cure, and Cocteau Twins, she turned personal loss and an expansive imagination into a prolific recording career. Her debut, Rad Red (1991), began a run of seven albums in seven years, reaching Lavender Rush in 1997.
After stepping away from recording, Cherry returned in late 1998. Her life ended on January 1, 2000, at twenty-seven. Posthumous releases, including Infrarad and Ultrarush, extended a body of work in which memory, feeling, and color remain inseparable.
